About Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir, union territory of India (until October 31, 2019, a state), located in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent centered on the plains around Jammu to the south and the Vale of Kashmir to the north. The union territory is part of the larger region of Kashmir, which has been the subject of dispute between India, Pakistan, and China since the partition of the subcontinent in 1947. Legislation passed in August 2019 set the stage for downgrading Jammu and Kashmir from statehood to union territory status and splitting off a part of it, known as the Ladakh region, into a separate union territory. The change went into effect on October 31 of that year, though several court cases affecting its status remained pending in the years that followed.

Jammu

Ladakh
Ladakh is a region in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that currently extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet.
Srinagar
Srinagar is the largest city and the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus, and Dal and Anchar lakes. The city is famous for its gardens, waterfronts, and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dried fruits.
Pahalgam
Pahalgam is a town and a notified area committee in the Anantnag district of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. It is a popular tourist destination and hill station. Pahalgam is associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra.
Leh
Leh was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh, now the Leh district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is dominated by the ruined Leh Palace, the former mansion of the royal family of Ladakh.
Achabal
Achabal is a town in Anantnag district, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Achabal is an important tourist place about 7 kilometres away from Anantnag. The place is notable for an ancient spring surrounded by a garden terraced and developed by the Mughals.
Akhnoor
Akhnoor is an archeological site and Municipal Committee in Jammu district in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, India. It is located at a distance of 28 km from Jammu, Akhnoor is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. The picturesque town is located on the banks of the Chenab River.
Anantnag
Anantnag is a city and a municipality, capital of the Anantnag district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a large business and trading centre of Kashmir Valley.
